Passpack, a Salt Lake City-based password management company, has released an iOS app and a Chrome browser extension, extending its platform beyond the desktop to the phones and browsers employees use throughout the workday. Both products connect to the same encrypted vault, so a credential saved at a desk is available on a phone or in a browser without being copied or re-entered.
The company said the releases aim to close the gap between how credential security is designed and how employees actually behave. Password management software has been available to businesses for well over a decade, but adoption has been limited by tools that add steps to routine tasks.
“Password managers have a reputation for being finicky, and that reputation keeps a lot of people from ever adopting one,” said Chris Skipworth, CEO of Passpack. “We built the app and the extension around a simple idea. Security works better when it fits naturally into how people already work. The mobile app frees credentials from the desk, and the browser extension removes friction from daily logins while adding protection where they’re entered. When secure access is the easiest option, better habits follow.”
What the products do
The iOS app gives employees access to stored credentials from their phones, which the company said keeps businesses working when staff are traveling, between meetings, or working from home. Passpack said mobile access is intended to remove the informal habits that appear when a password manager is available only at a desk, including sending a login by text message or storing one in a notes app. Businesses retain centralized oversight of access through the platform.
The Chrome extension works where credentials are entered. It fills saved logins on websites and captures new ones as accounts are created, removing the need to switch between a password manager and the site being accessed. The extension also flags login screens that appear unsafe, a feature the company positioned as a response to the growing volume of phishing pages created with AI tools.
Both products support secure credential sharing, allowing a team to share access to a shared account without sending the password through chat, email, or a spreadsheet.
The iOS app is available on the App Store, with an Android version expected. The browser extension is available for Chrome, and the company said Firefox and Edge versions will follow.
The security backdrop
Credential theft remains the most common way attackers reach business systems. Verizon’s 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report found stolen credentials involved in 39% of breaches when counted at any stage of an attack, making it the most frequent technique recorded in the report’s dataset.
Security researchers have noted that artificial intelligence has lowered the cost of the attacks that produce those stolen credentials. Phishing messages that once carried obvious errors can now be generated quickly and at scale, and automated tools allow attackers to test stolen username and password combinations across large numbers of accounts to find where people have reused them.
Federal guidance has adjusted to reflect the problem. The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Digital Identity Guidelines now identify password managers and autofill as practical measures for improving credential practices, a shift from earlier guidance that focused on complexity rules and forced password changes.
