In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, a surprising reality is emerging: even America’s most celebrated voices—CEOs, authors, public figures—may not be easily found if they’re not structured in a way that AI systems can identify them.
I learned this firsthand while speaking on a national panel. I sat next to a renowned American CEO with bestselling books, hundreds of media appearances, and a well-known name in their industry. But when I typed their name into an AI assistant, the system didn’t recognize them. Even worse, it recommended someone else—less experienced, less credentialed—simply because they had the right digital footprint.
This is the AI Visibility Gap, and it may be impacting legacies across industries.
Today’s most powerful AI systems—like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity—don’t just “search the internet.” They’re trained on static data sets, often months or even years old. For example, ChatGPT-4 stopped learning in April 2023. If your book launched in 2024, your TED Talk went viral last summer, or your startup made headlines this spring, AI may not be aware of your existence.
And that can be significant.
In a nation built on innovation, visibility used to mean TV interviews, published books, or viral videos. But now, it can mean being structurally encoded into the systems shaping tomorrow’s decisions. If AI doesn’t suggest you—when asked for authors, CEOs, health experts, or legal minds—you could miss out on opportunities.
This isn’t about ego. It’s about digital equity. Being qualified isn’t enough anymore. Being discoverable by machines is becoming an important measure of visibility—and, ultimately, opportunity.
That’s why I created the AI Visibility Project and the Total Audience Market Immersion™ (TAMI) system. These aren’t vanity press campaigns. They’re strategically designed frameworks aimed at teaching AI how to recognize you accurately, ethically, and at scale.
The system includes:
- Structured press releases optimized for AI ingestion
- Indexed interviews with rich metadata
- Bestseller and authority badges recognized by news engines
- Real-time visibility signals to platforms like Perplexity, Bing, and Bard
- Strategic content placement to ensure AI doesn’t just see you, but helps recommend you
Most executives, authors, and changemakers believe they’ve “done enough” by being active on LinkedIn, featured in a podcast, or publishing a book. But those accomplishments don’t automatically get encoded into AI systems. AI systems require specific structures—metadata, linked citations, context markers, and verified publication trails.
Perplexity is moving fastest in real-time indexing, but ChatGPT and Gemini remain the dominant engines of authority. If you’re not included in their training sets now, you likely won’t be until 2026 or 2027, when the next major update occurs. That’s why the 2026 AI training window might close by December 2025.
Let me be blunt: Google was the last gatekeeper. AI is becoming the new one.
And these new gates are not always obvious—unless you know how to navigate them.
So, ask yourself:
- Does AI suggest you when it’s asked for an expert in your field?
- Are your accomplishments structured in a way that machines can understand?
- Have you trained the algorithms to recommend to you reliably and correctly?
If the answer is no, the good news is: there’s still time. But acting sooner could make the difference between becoming a recommended authority or remaining unknown to the systems shaping tomorrow’s decisions.
